Denny’s Plant-Based Pancake Slam
I honestly don’t know that I’ve ever been to Denny’s, but hearing about their new plant-based Hearty 9-Grain Pancake Slam was a fun excuse to give them a try. They’re open 24 hours, and the plant-based Slam is available at all locations. This is amazing for accessibility! I visited the Denny’s in Roseville, MN.
The 9-Grain Pancake Slam features two multigrain pancakes with hash browns and fruit. The majority of locations use vegetable oil or dairy-free margarine on their cooktops, but you’ll want to double check that your location doesn’t use butter.
Their allergen guide notes that the pancakes contain soy and gluten, with egg, dairy, and sesame marked as potential cross-contamination allergens.
Our server ended up asking how we wanted our eggs prepared, but when we explained that it shouldn’t come with eggs, they didn’t bat an eye.
I didn’t specify that we didn’t want butter with our pancakes, but thankfully our pancakes were butter-free. (I’ve seen vegans on the internet recommend bringing your own vegan butter - such a great idea!)
The pancakes were delicious! They’re hearty (as named) with a crisp outer texture. The hash browns were a bit oily for me, but they had that perfect balance of crunchy and soft. The seasonal fruit included grapes, strawberries, pineapple, and blueberries.
If the plant-based Slam is ordered enough, maybe Denny’s will look into adding a plant-based meat option as well. But for now, this is a huge step in the right direction.
And as a bonus, this sign was posted in the grass outside… :)
Happy eating!
