3 Vegan-Friendly Spots for a Special Occasion in the Twin Cities

Fig + Farro's Beet Medallions

Whether you're celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or merely the fact that it's Friday, the three restaurants in this post have not disappointed me. I'll include some honorable mentions at the end, but I wanted to focus on the fancier spots in town. Reservations are always recommended.

Fig + Farro

Update 5/27/2020: Unfortunately, Fig + Farro has closed. I'll look into other options for this post and update as I'm able.

This one's at the top of my list primarily because it's all vegan. They can accommodate large parties but also have some nice cozy spots for two people. The space is beautiful, and their menu changes with the seasons. I love their cocktails (and mocktails!), and they offer prix fixe menus for many holidays.

Tongue in Cheek

I frequently encounter people who say they've heard good things about Tongue in Cheek but haven't been. If this is you, bite the bullet and go. The menu rotates seasonally, and the five course tasting menu is a fun way to treat yourself on a special occasion. If that feels like a bit much, you can order the Vegasm which is a rotating vegan dish that's always an option on the menu. They offer other marked vegan options, including at least one dessert.

Restaurant Alma

Restaurant Alma has a beautiful space with windows galore, and I enjoyed a delicious birthday dinner there. They offer a vegan prix fixe menu boasting fresh, flavorful food, along with fun cocktails. If you want to check them out without going all in for the prix fixe menu, you can visit their cafe which has a more casual setting.

If these options fall a little outside your budget, my next recommendation would be Hai Hai. I love the atmosphere and their fresh flavors. Cadry's Kitchen has enjoyed Cosmos at Loews Hotel in downtown Minneapolis, so that would be worth a visit as well.
